For this work, my practice is centered around the exploration of memory-making and memory-loss using the river/water as a guiding symbol. Deeply influenced by personal loss as well as the Greek myth of the River Lethe, where the dead drink the water in order to erase their memories and be reincarnated, these pieces confront memory as it passes through time and space. Lethe has several meanings - oblivion, forgetfulness, concealment, loss of truth. Is memory truth? If the person we co-create a memory with is no longer with us, what happens to the memory? If what we remember changes over time, does this alter the truth? And ultimately, how or why do we hold on to what we can remember?
